Four displaced after duplex fire in Moncton

Fire has extensively damaged a duplex on Reilly Avenue.

Moncton Fire Platoon Chief Paul Bruens says flames could be seen when they arrived just after 9 pm Sunday night.

“There were heavy fire conditions on the exterior of the house, which spread up the exterior walls into the attic space. It was a semi-detached home, so the fire had gone into the attic space on both sides.”

He says firefighters worked very hard to control the fire and extinguish it. They were on scene for around two and a half hours.

Bruens says the high winds helped to intensify the fire, and it spread quickly, but firefighters managed to contain it to the duplex. No neighbouring structures were damaged.

Four men have been displaced and were offered assistance by the Canadian Red Cross. No one was transported or treated at the scene by Ambulance New Brunswick.

Seventeen firefighters helped to battle the blaze.

Codiac RCMP, Ambulance New Brunswick and NB Power were also on scene.
