Members of the Ukrainian Club of Moncton are ready to open their doors to assist those fleeing their home country.
Club President Julia Khalack says local Ukrainian families would be prepared to host them here in Canada, “If we are able to get them on some sort of a sponsorship Visa, not as refugees. It would be great if the Canadian government could figure out a way to help us get the families here. We are ready to sponsor our families ourselves from our own wages.”
According to reports, over half a million people are trying to flee Ukraine.
Khalack is hoping the federal government will make this happen.
On Monday, in the House of Commons, Interim Conservative leader Candice Bergen stated her party would like to see Visa free travel from Ukraine to Canada to help families escape to safety.
The Ukranian Club of Moncton is still looking for donations.
Khalack says they are looking for mostly blood clotting medications, bandages, and there is also a need for baby food, formula and diapers.
She adds they are not able to accommodate shipping blankets or clothing right now.
The Club will be making more shipments from Moncton.
