Fire at Mapleton Road apartment building, pets rescued

Fire has damaged a unit in a three-storey apartment building on Mapleton Road.

Acting Platoon Chief James Rooney says they responded to the scene at around 5:15 Thursday afternoon, “Upon arrival, the crews discovered smoke coming from an apartment window. It was occupied not on all floors. It’s a new building.”

He says they were able to gain access to the apartment very quickly and get to the fire quickly.

No one was home when the fire broke out, but firefighters rescued pet dogs from the building.

Damage was contained to the one unit and Rooney described it as heavy damage.

Seventeen firefighters from four Moncton fire stations assisted.

RCMP, NB Power and Ambulance New Brunswick were also on scene.

The Canadian Red Cross helped with any residents who have been displaced.
