Father’s Day memorial run in N.B. comes to an end

The Three Fathers Memorial run won’t be held in 2025, or in any other years going forward.

It was created in 2014 to honour three RCMP officers, Constables Doug Larche, Dave Ross, and Fabrice Gevaudan who were tragically killed in the line of duty in Moncton.

“The run was created just days after the events of June 4, as a way to bring the community together and help our region navigate this terrible tragedy. Grief is a process, and today, it is time to move forward,” Board Director Nadine Larche says.

The run raised funds to provide scholarships to graduating students from the six public high schools served by the Codiac RCMP detachment.

“We’ve awarded over $150, 000 to 162 students and we’ll be giving out six scholarships again this year,” Larche says.

Scholarships will continue to be awarded in the years ahead as long as donations allow. Those wishing to contribute can reach out for more information on how to support the ongoing legacy of this initiative. Students interested in applying for a scholarship can inquire at their school.

More information on how to donate can also be obtained via email.

“We are incredibly grateful to everyone who participated in the run, our sponsors, and the many volunteers who made this event possible over the past ten years. For the families and RCMP members, this outpouring of support and kindness has been a great source of comfort,” Larche added.

She will continue to spend Father’s Day with a walk or a run with her girls, to honour and remember Doug Larche and the other officers, and to do something that he loved to do.

“A lot of people have come to me and said they will still be walking or running on that day. We’re definitely going to keep honouring our tradition on Father’s Day,” Larche stressed.

She encourages others to do the same.
