11 New COVID-19 Cases; 39th Death In N.B.

Public Health announced 11 new cases of COVID-19 Wednesday, and the 39th death related to the virus in New Brunswick.

The deceased was a resident of Pavillon Beau-Lieu, a special care home in Grand Falls, who was in their 70s.

The 11 new cases were spread out across the following health zones:

  • 3 cases in Zone 1 (Moncton region)
  • 1 in Zone 2 (Saint John)
  • 1 in Zone 3 (Fredericton)
  • 5 in Zone 4 (Edmundston)
  • 1 in Zone 6 (Bathurst)

Just one of the 11 cases, discovered in the Moncton health zone, is under investigation. The rest are considered travel-related or contacts of previously confirmed cases.

Six new recoveries were announced today, bringing the active case number to 145. Six people are in New Brunswick hospitals with the virus, and two of those are in the ICU.

Moncton zone school exposures

Public Health said there are two schools in the Moncton health zone with potential COVID-19 exposures.

The communities of École Père-Edgar-T.-LeBlanc in Grand-Barachois and École Le Mascaret in Moncton were notified and asked to stay home Wednesday.

The exposures were discovered late Tuesday night, and Public Health is evaluating the risk posed to the school community.

Staff and students, as well as their families, were asked to limit contacts Wednesday. The request extended to asking parents not to send their children to child-care facilities.

UNB outbreak updated

Residents of Magee House, which has been at the centre of an outbreak on the UNB Fredericton campus, will be tested again today.

The province says those who continue testing negative ‘could end’ at midnight on May 8.

Residents of the Elizabeth Parr-Johnston residence were tested Monday, and their isolation will be lifted tonight at midnight.
