It’s official!
The Government of New Brunswick has set a time for the Friday, September 17th opening of the new causeway bridge.
Spokesperson for the Department of Transportation Mark Taylor says there is an informal ceremony planned for 2 o’clock with a ribbon cutting.
Dignitaries from both sides of the bridge will be on hand.
Taylor is asking anyone who would like to attend, to please stay on the sidewalk, because they will quickly be reopening the bridge to traffic once the ribbon cutting is over.
He adds the major part of the project is complete, but there will still be crews on site for the next few weeks doing cleanup, along with environmental work.
$121 million was allocated for the whole restoration project, with work that needed to be done along the Petitcodiac River. That figure includes almost $62 million for the bridge itself.
A more formal celebration along with the naming of the bridge will be held at a later date.
