Heavy Rain Causes Road Washouts

Heavy rain has forced the closure of a couple of roads in the Moncton region.

The remnants of Hurricane Ida dumped around 71 millimetres on the area.

Department of Transportation Spokesperson Mark Taylor says a portion of the Albert Mines Road was washed out and is currently closed.

Milton Road in Hillsborough was also affected.

Taylor adds one person was stranded in the area temporarily during the heavy rains, but she is now safe.

Area resident Becky Cormier lives around a kilometre from the washout. She says this section of the road has washed out before, but just repaired instead of replaced. She feels there should be a bridge there considering how many times this specific spot has washed out.
