The Government of Canada is investing $5.3 million for nine public infrastructure projects in Moncton.
Ginette Petitpas Taylor, Member of Parliament for Moncton-Riverview-Dieppe, was at Moncton City Hall on Friday morning to make the announcement for Catherine McKenna, Minister of Infrastructure and Communities.
“Today’s investments will create good local jobs in addition to helping provide Moncton residents with safe and reliable infrastructure,” said Petitpas Taylor.
Projects include upgrades for Moncton City Hall, the Coliseum, and the Assumption and St. George Street fire stations. Funding will also allow Codiac Transpo to install a backup generator to provide optimal service.
“When an apartment building catches fire in the middle of the night, perhaps in a cold evening, and dozens of vulnerable people are forced into the cold, Codiac buses are at the rescue, and they’re there to warm people up,” said Petitpas Taylor on the importance of public transportation.
The City of Moncton is contributing an additional $1.3 million to the nine infrastructure projects that include improvements for the sewer system, sidewalks and Elmwood Drive.

“With increased demand on our infrastructure and with a growing population, these strategic investments allow us to protect our infrastructure assets for a safe and reliable City while also building for the future,” said Moncton Mayor Dawn Arnold.

Just two weeks ago, Petitpas Taylor announced funding for ten projects in Moncton.
